Bidding manipulations distorts market signals and leads investors to make false judgment. It is very harmful to the development of this market. As online peer-to-peer has become more and more important for our national economy, the adverse impact of market manipulation becomes even greater. Such problem have become a new research area. Using proprietary data and the support from the industry, we aim to investigate the characteristics of bidding manipulation fraud and its working mechanism. Specifically, we study the feature of bidding manipulation, develop a detection model, study its influential factors and its influence for investors. The result of this study is help to enrich the anti-fraud theory, and provide tools for the detection of bidding manipulation. As market manipulation may also exists in other e-commerce and financial markets, our results also provide reference for the developments of these markets.
